AGIT/Turbo Zicatela Pro, presented by Found Boards, ID Boards, and Colorada Surf Event 4 of 8, Mens Grand Slam Series Puerto Escondido, Mexico 4-13 Aug 2011 PUERTO ESCONDIDO, Oaxaca / Mexico (Wednesday, Aug 7, 2011) - Round 1 of the leader board stage has been completed in heavy 2-3 meter waves, groomed by light offshore winds. Pierre Louis Costes (Capbreton/FRA) managed to accumulate a total heat score of 15.50 out of 20, scoring an impressive 8.75 for a single backflip. The young frenchman defeated Dave Winchester (Mullumbimby/AUS) in 2nd, Igor Sanchez (CNY) 3rd and local rider, Ulises Rodriguez (MEX) 4th by earning the highest single wave score and total heat score of the event. Costes commented: "I feel we have an amazing tour this year, even better than surfing. Its like a dream come true to be on this tour. I cant wait to go the next event." Ben Player (Avalon/AUS) also won his Round 1 heat with a total score of 13. 40 out of 20. Player Is no stranger to the Mexican or Hawaiian Pipeline, having traveled to both on numerous occasions, he knows all to well how dangerous and powerful these waves are. "This is a heavy wave, although Pipeline has reef and this is sand, you can still break your neck out here" Player added "Its really heavy and dangerous." Jared Housten (Cape Town/ZAF) managed to defeat trialists, Tom Rigby (Miami/AUS) 2nd and Joe Clarke 3rd(Duranbah/AUS) and World Tour veteran Ryan Hardy (Margaret River/AUS) 4th. Housten was lucky enough to receive new boards yesterday, just in time for his first heat of the event. "Confidence is a stain you can't wipe off, and I was bursting at the seams on my new boards", Housten elated. Housten will face 2x World Champ Jeff Hubbard (HAW), wild card Glen Thurson (Ulladulla/AUS) and Portugese powerhouse, Manuel Centeno in his Round 2 match up. Other heat winners of round 1 included: Jeff Hubbard (HAW) Tamega (Copacabana/BRA) Magno Oliviera (Guarapari/BRA) Uri Valadoa Dave Hubbard (HAW) Check in time is 7am with an expected start at 7:30 am Zicatela time.
